Kids have a natural curiosity and love to explore and discover. Imagine if we could have time, in a school day, for them to explore and research a topic or a project they’re passionate about.
This article on ‘Genius Hour‘ shares how kids can be excited and engaged in learning new things. They actually want to get better at something and master what it is they are learning.
Passion-based learning is an approach we use in our Genius Camps. Our Genius Campers are provided with an overview of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and then they have an afternoon to prepare their presentation of what they would do to help solve / address one of the SDGs. We encourage them to think global and act local. They are not having to ‘earn grades’; they get to pick their topic because they have a real interest in what that SDG is all about.
There are lots of resources and lesson plans for the SDGs, so take the time to check them out and see how you can either use this in your classroom or plan a family project.
