Every Kid is a Genius in Their Own Way

You are here:Home / News / Every Kid is a Genius in Their Own Way

It was lovely to receive this message from Chris. With each of his children, I helped them explore their natural genius. One was a whirlwind of creativity, another a super sleuth, and the other a great conversationist.

It’s easy to get caught up in grades, peer pressure, and the “shoulds” of growing up. But what if we took a step back and focused on something truly special: their natural genius? Every child is born with unique talents and abilities. It might not be the kind that shines in a traditional classroom setting, but that doesn’t make it any less valuable. ‍‍

It’s our job to nurture those gifts and help them blossom. Here’s why:

Discovering their genius boosts confidence: When kids know they’re good at something, it gives them a sense of purpose. They’ll be more likely to take risks, embrace challenges and believe in themselves.

It fuels their passions: When we encourage their natural interests, we light a fire in their hearts. They’ll be more motivated to learn, explore and create in areas that truly excite them. Don’t dismiss their “oddities.” That obsession with dinosaurs might lead to a future paleontologist!

It opens doors to the future: Their genius might not be academics, but it could be music, art, coding, social activism, or anything else! Recognizing and nurturing their strengths opens up a world of possibilities beyond traditional career paths.

So, how can we discover their natural genius?

Observe them: Pay attention to what they gravitate towards, what makes them light up and what they spend hours doing without being asked. Think of a time when you have called them to come to dinner and you end up finding them so engrossed in something they didn’t even hear you.

Talk to them: Ask questions, listen actively, and encourage them to share their dreams and interests. Provide opportunities: Sign them up for classes, workshops, or volunteer work related to their passions. Create a space at home where they can explore and experiment.

Celebrate their progress: No matter how small, acknowledge and celebrate their achievements in their areas of genius. Most importantly, believe in them. Your confidence can be the rocket fuel that propels them towards their dreams.

Remember, every child is unique. There’s no one-size-fits-all approach to genius. Help them discover their natural genius with Teen Dynamics.
